Unbeatable cyclops robot plays Pong – Boing Boing Gadgets.

I like this project. It can be important to include a feedback loop that incorporates some portion of the physical world. We definitely have made a major advantage of our ability to manipulate matter.

But why not direct connect? What are you afforded by going the long way to building a pong robot?

that’s really cool.

I think what makes this interesting is that it’s all about our assumptions. we assume a directly-connected robot/program can beat us at pong, because it’s part of the system. but by making the robot use the same interface we do, it’s outside the system and therefore subject to the same limitations and handicaps we have…. even though in reality its capabilities are vastly different.
